George Hollingbery meets Wickham entrepreneur to discuss business rates

Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery has met with a Wickham entrepreneur to discuss business rates and the economic climate.

George had talks with Ben Warwick, who runs the Warwick Lane antiques market in the village, after he contacted him over proposed rises in business rates, which could affect traders in the market.

“It was good to meet Ben, who has come back to his home village to set up his business, become a parish councillor and made a real contribution to Wickham,” said George.

“The issue of business rates was talked about and, at the time, I said measures would be implemented to help small businesses.

“I’m happy to say the Chancellor in his budget last week capped any business rate rise for small traders who have lost business rate relief because of revaluation to £50 a month or £600 a year.

“This will allow small traders, like the ones in Warwick Lane, certainty they will not be getting big bills and it will allow them to plan ahead. I thank Ben for contacting me and discussing these important concerns and I wish him all the best in his business.”
