New Housing Initiatives on Housing will help people in Hampshire says George Hollingbery MP
The Government's New Housing Strategy will mean more affordable homes for families in Hampshire, Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery has said.
The economic situation over the last few years had led to a cycle that lenders won’t lend, the builders can’t build and the buyers can’t buy and this needs to be broken, said George.
In the Meon Valley and in many other areas across Hampshire and south east England new affordable family homes is a major issue and one which can help with economic growth and jobs, if done right.
"There has been much talk from all political sides about the figures for affordable house building, but the fact is that not enough has been done for many years and much more needs to be done.
"The government has pledged a reinvigorated Right to Buy Scheme to fund new affordable homes. For every additional home bought under Right to Buy, a new affordable home will be built and this is good news," explained George.
"The new £400 million Get Britain Building fund will also support building firms in need of development finance and this could help finance 16,000 new homes.
"Also a Build Now, Pay Later’ is designed to support builders struggling to get finance upfront - a major issue in Hampshire were the cost of land is high."
Other initiatives include a self-build programme to support and encourage more individuals and communities to build their own homes and making better use of existing stock, bringing more empty homes and buildings back into use.
